POLICE STOP! THE SERIES |
![]() |
Bill Rudgard - Producer/Director of the Police Stop! series. The aim of the programmes is to target young drivers with an educational message about bad driving and its consequences. The best way to do this is to mix actual bad driving clips with clips of pursuits. This edu-tainment works well in attracting a young audience and lecturing them at the same time. more |

The video was reworked for television and is now known as Police Camera
Action which runs on ITV . The show attracts massive ratings
Police Stop! started in January 1994 when a compilation of video clips collected from numerous traffic police divisions around the country was released on video . With a little bit of help from a centre page spread in The Sun newspaper the video bounced almost straight into the no.1 position in the national video charts and stayed there for over a month. For some years now the traffic police have been equipping marked and unmarked patrol cars with a small video camera mounted next to the rear view mirror on a swivel mount. The camera is running continuously while on patrol and records any in car conversations, [including bad language] as well as putting time, speed and date information onto the picture . When an incident is videoed it's transferred back at the station and kept for the courts, though in many cases the officers show the clip to the offending motorist on the spot..... and 90% of the time when confronted with the visual evidence they instantly plead guilty. Other incidents of bad driving and pursuits are from fixed motorway surveillance cameras and police helicopters. |
