In the last few years there has been a massive rise in the crime rate around the world. In a desperate attempt to control the tidal wave of crime, the police, local councils, retailers and the general public have purchased security surveillance cameras . The footage of criminal activity that these cameras record has been successfully used in court on many occasions. The footage is also helping the police with criminal investigations, showing it to the public on TV crime program's has helped solve numerous cases.

1 ] Shops & Robbers:
It is well known that shops and business's loose billions worth of goods every year to theft. Security cameras have been very effective in combating shop lifting, but there is still alot that shop staff can do to prevent crime or actually arrest people that they catch stealing goods. This program shows footage of people in the act of shop lifting and examines how the cameras are used.

2 ] Driving surveillance:
Traffic police the world over are investing in video technology as a way of recording bad driving and pursuits as they happen. The video evidence speeds up court proceedings and usually results in offenders admitting their guilt. Cameras are mounted in patrol cars, on the roadsides operated by remote control, from helicopters and positioned at traffic lights to catch red light jumpers. Other driving clips come from diverse sources such as cameras in school buses, government transport department surveys and sometimes news crews. The program highlights the dangers of bad driving and examines the different ways the cameras are being used to educate drivers and cut car crime .

3 ] Bank Robbery surveillance:
Being faced by an armed robber is always an incredibly traumatic experience for bank/building society/post office etc. staff. It can give them stress problems that take many months to cure and in some instances staff are actually injured by the robbers. Cameras are often the only form of protection either to provide evidence or as a deterrent.

4 ] Street Crime surveillance:
Many street crimes occur in broad daylight in busy streets. Security cameras installed in many city centres have been very successful in reducing crime . The program shows a range of different street crime activities from car crime, mugging to vandalism, rioting and public indecency and examines how and if the cameras are working.

5 ] Home Video surveillance:
The public have literally armed themselves with cameras and use them to capture the most extraordinary incidents. Rescues, neighbourly feuds, street protests, demonstrations, thieves videoing themselves at work, abusive babysitters and police violence are among some of the thousands of incidents that have been caught on camera. The program examines how these videos have been used either as a form of protection for the owner, or used as evidence against criminals etc.

6 ] Government surveillance:
Governments have been quick to realise the benefits of surveillance cameras, they are like a police force, cheap to run and they don't need feeding!.. many government departments use them for different reasons. Customs have some of the most sophisticated bugging and spying devices, Immigration use it to gather evidence, the FBI use it because it can be hidden away and is safe way to monitor dangerous situations and the Military use it for spying and assessing the effectiveness of air strikes etc. The program will look at how camera technology is being put to good/bad use by government and how it effect's the public's privacy .
